Choosing the right wedding planner for you is a task in itself! Here are a few questions to ask a wedding planner if you’re considering hiring one to plan your big day.

  1. What is your wedding planning philosophy?
This may sound silly, but this question matters to find a planner who is a right fit for you. If you have a planner who believes in more traditional weddings such as highly recommends you have a wedding cake and do a first dance, but you wish to omit both of those things, then your philosophy doesn’t match right? At P.S. Eventful, we make it clear to our couples at our initial meeting, “This is YOUR wedding and do what YOU like!”
  2. What are your credentials?
Let’s be real. These days, ANYONE can create a website and give themselves whatever title they desire. Find out what exactly makes your wedding planner qualified for their role. Do they have a certification in wedding and/or event planning or several years of experience in this industry. P.S. Eventful is proudly certified by the Wedding Planners Institute of Canada.
  3. What do you not offer?
It’s great to know how much a wedding planner can do for you, but it’s important to know what your planer will not do. Does your planner handle pick-ups on your wedding day? Will your planner pay vendors on your behalf? At P.S. Eventful we make it clear to couples the one thing we do not handle due to liability reasons is emptying and storing any card/money boxes.
  4. Do you make any commission from the vendors you refer to me?
Unfortunately a common practice in the wedding industry are vendors who work on kickbacks (money for referrals). Ask your planner directly if they will ever profit if you book that vendor they suggested (ethically, they shouldn’t!). At P.S. Eventful, we suggest vendors based on quality of work, good customer service, and client budget. Any discount offered to P.S. Eventful is a discount given to our couples.
  5. Are there any additional fees for your services?.
In addition to a base fee, your planner may charge you for mileage, parking reimbursements, and/or food allowance. It’s important to be aware of these fees from the start and include them in your wedding budget.
  6. Can you provide me with references?.
Testimonials on website and reviews are wonderful, but don’t be afraid to ask your potential wedding planner for references (a phone number/email from a past couple who you can reach out). Ask the reference about the planner’s working style and how the planner helped both during the planning process and on the wedding day.

A wedding planner is an important investment in your wedding. Good luck in finding the right one for you!
