Here are a few commonly asked questions in regards to wedding invitations and save the dates to help your planning process!
Do I need a Save the Date?
If you are planning a destination wedding OR a local wedding which will fall over a long weekend (especially in the summer), then yes, a save-the-date is important. They allow your guests to plan their vacation days accordingly, provide their place of employment with ample notice, and in some cases, give guests time to apply for a visitor visa.
Who should receive a Save The Date?
Only invited guests.
When should I send a Save the Date?
Eight months before your wedding month is ideal. However, you can send your save-the-date as early as a year if you have secured your venue/date/destination.
What information should the Save the Date contain?
The couple’s names, the wedding date(s), and city the wedding will be taking place in. If you have your wedding website set up at this time, it is a good idea to include it too.
What does a wedding invitation include?
Traditionally wedding invitations include: the invitation, a reception card, a response card, a return envelope, and directions/maps. However, depending on the formality of your wedding, many couples opt for simply an invitation and request guests RSVP online. It’s your personal choice how formal you wish for your wedding invitation to be.
When should I sent out my wedding invitation?
Six to eight weeks before your wedding date. If you are having a summer wedding in high season, it’s best to send your invite out eight weeks in advance.
When should my RSVP be?
The RSVP date will ideally be three weeks before your wedding. Keep in mind you will likely be following up with a number of guests to confirm their RSVP simply because they’ve forgotten the deadline. Also remember your caterer and/or venue will want a final guest count about 10 days prior to your wedding date.
Tip: Your Save-the-Date and/or wedding invitation is your guests first look at your wedding. A good wedding invitation should illustrate to your guests the theme of your wedding and the formality. Plus don’t forget to tie in the invitation stationery with any other printed materials at your wedding, such as menu cards, place cards, and even thank you cards. It’s a great way to blend together pieces of your wedding!
